Slurry Storage Regulation

Slurry Storage Regulation in the U.K.

Changes to legislation pertaining to the storage of slurry were bought into force in January 2012.

The European Commission Nitrates Directive requires
“ areas of land that drain into waters polluted by nitrates to be designated as Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs)”

NVZs now cover 62% of England.

This means that farmers with land in NVZs have to follow a set of rules designed to tackle the loss of nitrate from agriculture.

The UK environmental agency is responsible for assessing and enforcing farmers compliance with these new regulations.

Evenproducts MANCON slurry and manure tanks are designed specifically to comply with the Nitrate Pollution Prevention Regulations which came into force in 2009.

It is these Nitrate Pollution Prevention Regulations that have been used to implement the Nitrates Directive.
